{2 very-versatile summer tops}

     I don’t know about you, but I love getting the most bang for my buck. Which is why I’m constantly looking for creative ways to make my all pieces work in more ways than one. Today, I’ll show you how you can use two tops you probably already own as swimsuit cover ups AND for cocktails later!

     I'm willing to bet you have a super cute cardi hanging in your closet somewhere. Sheer, of course, is best for these hot as Hades days, but a filmy cardi with feminine details, such as ruffles or an embellished neckline, is a surefire way to be sitting pretty poolside. Simply tie at the waist with a thin ribbon--raffia or twine can be cute too!--and you can easily mask a not-so-taut tummy while accentuating your beautiful curves. Don't bother buttoning it at all--there's no reason to ruin that fetching dĂ©colletage.

"Hello, handsome."

Sheer Cardi: Marina Babini (available in The Shoppe). Swimsuit Top: Perry Ellis. Swimsuit Bottom: Victoria's Secret. Sandals: Patrick Cox (available in The Shoppe).

Sunglasses: A. J. Morgan. Earrings: Forever21. Lipstick: Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte #14. Sandals: Patrick Cox (available in The Shoppe).

Leopard Print Skirt: Vintage (thanks, Alyssa!). Pumps: Aldo (similar here). Earrings: Nordstrom Crystal Drop Earrings. Silver Bracelet: Gift. Clutch: French Connection via Goldie Boutique (3092 Fuller Street, Coconut Grove, FL.). Lipstick: MAC Ruby Woo.
     The same cardi can work a few hours later for al fresco dining and drinks by simply buttoning it up and tucking it into a high-waisted pencil skirt. And yes, you should dare to wear that sheer cardi sans cami!

"Fan me, will you dahling?"

Animal Print Tunic: Bill Blass (available in The Shoppe). Sandals: CAFE'NOIR. Earrings: Forever21. Lip Gloss: Chanel Lèvres Scintillantes Glossimer #87. Sunglasses: Derek Lam (similar here).

     The truth is, gals, any old tunic was born to be recycled as a cover up--they're both basically the same cut. In fact, I see no reason to buy cover ups specifically at all. Why buy two separate pieces, when you can just use one as both?

Livin' la dolce vita.

Jeans: Model's own, the lovely Ms. Grace Munoz. Pumps: Vince Camuto. Belt & jewelry: Stylist's own. Moi, naturally! Bag: Francesco Biasia (available in The Shoppe).
     Our gorgeous Gracie-Poo is ready for a night on the town by pairing the same Bill Blass animal print tunic used for glamourous poolside lounging with classic white jeans. Take a page from her carefree-is-the-new-sexy book and complete your look with combed-back pool-dampened hair and liner-heavy sultry eyes.

"Ta-ta for now!"

     Even if you can't afford to buy anything new this summer, give your wardrobe a fresh perspective. I bet you'll find you've got lots of pieces that can go from cover ups to cocktails. Ahem!: cardis, tunics, long sheer tops, baby-doll tops, boyfriend button-downs--that also function as shirt dresses--the possibilities are only limited to how creatively you can style what you already own. ;)

P.S. Did you see something you like? It's probably for sale in The Shoppe!
