I love sweet-as-pie retro prints as much as the next girl, but I'm just not the wide-eyed twenty-something fit for floral crowns anymore (not that I don't still think they're super cute!). And while I'll still die for cotton-candy pink hearts, these days I look to balance those girly-girl details with a little bit of spice more befitting of my seasoned sense of style. If you're of a certain age, here are two easy styling tips for pulling off those sugary (fashion) cravings we never quite grow out of.

Tip 1: Do any print that feels distinctly young (hearts, polka dots, illustrated animals of any kind) in a "grown-up", structured silhouette: trousers, pencils skirts, pantsuits, etc. Don't you dare wear a unicorn print with a flouncy a-line skirt!

Custom cuff studding by Tom Heslop of Vntgdenim.
Tip 2: Take page out of vintage vixen, Lana Del Rey's book and spice it up with I-mean-business hardware. Tom Heslop of Vntgdenim was sweet enough to edge-out my button-down with the pyramid studs you see above. But you can get the look with studded bangles, such as a stack of these or these.

Sweater: French Connection (Thrifted!). Skirt: Express. Belt: Tahari (Thrifted!). Shoes: Mojo Moxy (thanks, William!). Disco ball pendant: Sale Rack (3444 Main Hwy Coconut Grove, FL 33133)
