LADY IN RED

A red dress never goes out of style. It's the classic color of womanhood and, conveniently, it's seasonless. I've had this little number for a few years and have never retired it from my repertoire. The fact is, whether the ruffles are in or out, a red sheath dress is timeless and you can bet any variation is a good investment. Especially when the fit is flattering.

Last season I wore this Express dress (snagged for about $60 on sale so many moons ago) with animal print pumps and a fur-collared camel coat. This season I've made it relevant with a wide tribal-print belt (Mango), chain-link necklace (Macy's) and graphic black and white woven sandals (Stuart Weitzman). Next season, I'll probably do a wide black coat, oxblood bag, eggplant leather gloves and pointy toe pumps. When you have a classic piece, it's easy to stay chic while keeping up with trends.

How would you style your red dress? If you're stumped, let me know! I'll send styling suggestions to the first three ladies who comment with a link to their favorite red dress.

  1. I have chosen a red dress for baby shower held at a restaurant overlooking the ocean. I'm having a hard time styling it, since it's my shower! Hope you enjoy the challenge of styling a maternity dress! Thank you.

  2. Dear Momma-to-be,

First, congratulations! You must be so excited. The shower location sounds fabulous! Now, the dress--it's stunning! I applaud your choice. You are going to look spectacular. Before I share suggestions, I have one very important question: Are you able to wear heels? I've styled pregnant women before, and I know the swelling is a big consideration. If not (no problem!) can you do wedges, or are we on flats exclusively these days? I'll do a dedicated blog post for you, for being the first to comment, that you can look out for tomorrow ;) Thanks so much for participating & I'll await your reply on the shoe situation.

    1. I'm in flats these days, my lovely feet swell into a whole size bigger. Yikes.
